On a warm summer afternoon, when the air carried a gentle warmth and the forest was filled with the soft melodies of birdsong, a young woman — let’s call her Anna — decided to take a brief stroll among the nearby trees.
That forest wasn’t particularly famous for anything special, just a modest grove on the outskirts of town where people often walked, jogged, or simply relaxed amidst nature.
Anna frequented this spot as a refuge from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
As she wandered between the trees and patches of sunlight filtered through the leafy canopy, something suddenly caught her eye.
In the grass, nestled within a deeper shadow, lay an almost imperceptible tiny black creature.

Anna looked at him, puzzled. “Is this… not just a regular lizard?” she whispered.
The vet simply shook his head.
“What you’ve brought… is no ordinary animal. You’ve found an individual from a species that we’ve been struggling to save from extinction for many years.
It’s an extremely rare and protected species — so rare that its existence is almost kept secret.”
It turned out that not far from the forest where Anna had walked, there was a closed nature reserve where this particular species was bred and guarded under strict supervision.
The lizard she found wasn’t truly a common lizard but a representative of an ancient and mostly unknown reptilian species, whose survival is vital for the ecosystem.
At the reserve, they had been searching for this individual for weeks — it had disappeared, and fears grew that it had perished.
Anna listened in amazement to the story. A simple walk — a little attentiveness — and now the fate of an entire species might hinge on the fact that she noticed and helped.
The creature was immediately transported back to the reserve, where treatment began. Though its condition was serious, the specialists remained hopeful.
Anna stood silently, watching as the animal was taken away, while the veterinarian specifically asked her not to share the story widely.
